How To Naturally Reduce Your Coffee Intake

Life can get pretty exhausting. You work all day, do chores, run errands, take care of your kids, and attempt to have a social life on top of all your daily tasks.

What is the one thing that you can’t live without? The one thing that you know will save you when you just can’t get out of bed but you know just one sip of this and all is well in the world…

That oh so delicious nice and warm brewed cup of coffee!

You know- that moment when just the sound of your coffee dripping into your favorite mug sparks joy in your life!

We get it!

There’s no other way to explain it other than a magical wake me up potion that is simply the best taste in the world!

Starbucks run anyone?

Well turns out, you’re not alone. According to a study commissioned by the National Coffee Association, about 3,000 Americans were surveyed and it turns out that 64 percent of Americans drink a cup of coffee every single day! The percentage has increased from 62 percent since 2017, which also turns out to be the highest percentage since 2012.

So yeah- we’re not the only coffee lovers on the planet and that’s OK.

However, have you ever thought about what drinking coffee everyday might do to your body?

Is it good or is it bad?

Let’s chat about it.

How Does Coffee Actually Work?

Coffee contains caffeine, when caffeine enters your bloodstream it takes as little as ten minutes to react as a stimulant. According to Dana Hunnes, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.D., senior dietician at UCLA Medical Center, caffeine binds to adenosine receptors in the brain. Adenosine is a nervous system depressant, meaning its presence suppresses arousal and promotes sleep. However, once caffeine comes into the picture, the adenosine’s effects are weakened which then causes stimulation. Once caffeine is ingested it increases brain activity which then causes your adrenaline to kick in. Adrenaline is basically what causes you to gain that extra burst of energy as well as be focused and alert.

How Coffee Affects Your Body Everyday

As delicious and soothing a cup of coffee first thing in the morning is, it might not be the best for your body if you drink it every single day- more than once a day.

Don’t worry, we’re not telling you to ditch your coffee. You can still enjoy your magical cup of coffee, but maybe just once a day to avoid any long term side effects.

Here’s what we mean…

While coffee may help jumpstart your day, it also contains many side effects.

For example, did you know that coffee is actually very acidic? Because of its high acidity level, coffee can actually lead to digestive discomfort, indigestion, heartburn, GERD and an imbalance in your gut flora. Remember- illnesses or diseases start from your gut, so it’s good to maintain a healthy balance in your gut flora.

Coffee is also known for staining teeth and causing bad breath.

Anyone else would like to keep their teeth nice and white and minty fresh?

Did you know that coffee can stay in your system for HOURS?
