SMART and Healthy 4th of July Recipes

Who doesn’t love a festive 4th of July BBQ? A fun gathering with friends and family is always the highlight of every summer. As we plan to celebrate America’s independence, we might think of traditional BBQ foods, as well as the regular fixings: Grilled corn, potato salad, and that weird-looking red and blue jello with whipped cream.

This year, we wanted to introduce five SMART and delicious healthy food and beverage recipes that can be the highlight of every 4th of July party. These recipes are all SMART Pressed Juice Cleanse approved so you can enjoy your Independence Day party - guilt-free!
 

1. Bunless Bison Burger with Watermelon Fennel Salad

Serves: 2-4     Recipe Created by Chef Dana
Bison Patty Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground bison
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1 whole large egg

  • Salt and pepper

  • 4 tomato slices

  • Butter lettuce

  • Thin sliced red onion as desired

Watermelon Fennel Salad Ingredients:

  • 1 cup watermelon cubes
  • 1/2 fennel bulb shaved thin

  • Spinach and kale mix

  • Lemon juice

  • Balsamic vinaigrette (see recipe on previous page)

Instructions:

In another mixing bowl, toss spinach and kale mix with watermelon cubes, shaved fennel, lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Plate salad and drizzle with balsamic vinaigrette and fresh black pepper. Next to the salad, Garnish with tomatoes and red onions (optional).

2. 4th of July Salad

Servings: 1    Created By Chef Dana Nguyen
Ingredients:

  • Spinach and kale spring mix

  • 6 strawberries

  • 1/2 cup blueberries

  • 4-5 stalks of asparagus

  • 1 small head of broccoli

  • 1/4 red onion

  • 1 avocado

  • Handful raw almonds

Remove tops from strawberries and slice. Thinly slice red onion, cut ends off asparagus (fibrous and inedible) and thinly slice on a bias. Cut the broccoli florets into small bite size portions. Cube or slice avocado. Toast raw almonds with olive oil and salt in oven at 350 degrees. Keep a close watch on them. Once you remove from oven, cool slightly and crush into smaller pieces.

In a large bowl, toss spinach and kale spring mix with all ingredients except avocado and almonds. Drizzle with balsamic vinaigrette (recipe below). Place all ingredients in a lid tight container and shake rigorously until combined (can be stored in fridge for a week). Top off with cubed avocado, toasted almonds, fresh black pepper, and a squeeze of lemon juice

Chef Dana’s Balsamic Vinaigrette
Simply combine 2 parts Balsamic vinegar, 1 part olive oil, 1 tbl spoon mustard, salt, pepper, and lemon juice to taste.

3. Summer Cucumber Tomato Salad

Ingredients:

  • 1 cucumber medium (leave the skin on) 1-2 roma tomatoes

  • Baby spinach or kale mix

  • Balsamic vinegar

  • Olive oil

  • Lemon wedges

  • Himalayan salt and pepper

    Instructions:
    Cut cucumber and tomatoes into medium cubes. Toss spinach and kale mix with cut cucumbers and tomatoes. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Once on the plate served, add a touch of salt, fresh cracked black pepper and a small squeeze of lemon as desired.

4. Apple + Cold Pressed Greens Juice

Servings: 1
Ingredients:

  • One scoop Smart Pressed Juice Cold Pressed Greens

  • 12 oz unfiltered organic apple juice

  • Ice

    Instructions:
    Shake or stir the Cold Pressed Greens and apple juice together. Pour over ice and enjoy! This is for anybody that craves the cold, crisp bite of an apple.


 

5. Strawberry + Blueberry Vanilla Proteini

Servings: 1
Ingredients:

  • Two scoops Smart Pressed Juice Vanilla Proteini

  • 10 oz organic almond milk, cashew milk or coconut milk

  • 5 organic strawberries, reserve one for topping

  • Handful of organic blueberries, reserve a few for topping

  • Crushed ice

    Instructions:
    Blend the Vanilla Proteini, almond milk, berries and ice. Pour immediately, top with remaining berries and serve! Your whole family will enjoy the smooth, creamy milkshake flavor of our Proteini.
